One of the nastiest, dirtiest bugs we deal with is the cockroach.
Some cockroaches can carry Cholera, Dysentery, Leprosy, Listeriosis, Salmonellosis and more. They transmit these diseases not through bite but by indirect ways with an item that has come into contact with the cockroaches. As you can see this is why we take our job very seriously and want to help control these nasty insects. There are 4 main cockroaches in Arizona that we focus on but 2 are the most prominent.
The 4 are:
• American
• German
• Brown banded
• Oriental
The American and German will be the main ones discussed here.
What is the difference:
• Size, location and amount
American cockroach is over 1” in size and can be either outside or inside but generally speaking you only see a few at a time. American love being in dark cool places like your pipes, drains and sewer system.
German cockroaches are under ½” and mainly infest the kitchen and bathroom. Because they reproduce faster, you usually end up seeing many more. Typically, when you turn on the kitchen light late at night they run fast and hide. German cockroaches also leave feces dropping in the cabinets that are easy to spot, if you are trained for it.
Treating cockroaches with pest control:
American cockroaches are treated under normal pest control since they normally live in your home and under your home, in the sewer system.
German cockroaches, like bed bugs, come from an outside source and are an extra service and fee. If you do not discover the source that brought home the German cockroaches, then there is a very high chance you could continue to have the same infestation problem in the future. As for the actual treatment you have to treat the kitchen cabinets, all of the drawers, under the countertops, electrical outlets, behind the stove and more. It requires 100% of the kitchen to be empty for us to service it. You definitely don’t want these awful pests in your home!
