People often call these Sowbugs, Pillbugs (aka roly-poly) and there is a slight difference between the two of them. Sowbugs are land crustaceans that cannot roll themself into a ball like the pillbugs. But much like Silverfish, sowbugs enter the home looking for damp high moisture areas. They will often not survive in your home if it is too dry. Sowbugs are mainly found outside under wood piles, garden beds or leaves, using that for their diet.
• 1/4″ to 1/2″ in length.
• Two tail like appendages at the rear of their body (also known as uropods)
• Light to dark gray
• Three body parts (head, thorax and abdomen)
• Seven pairs of legs
• Oval bodies that are flat on button but curved on top
What do I do if they are in my home:
Inspect under sinks, faucets, laundry room, anywhere there is moisture. These are not a threat to humans but can become a nuisance if left untreated. It could also invite more bugs to your house or business.
